Not sure you need to be 4x4, but you’d want tough tires. If you come from the north there’s a small ford/stream to cross and about 3km of dirt track and then back to gritted tarmac. We took the first track towards the coast that serviced the Berber community on the flatlands. You could park anywhere, we chose to look at the beautiful dunes. If you come from the south, be prepared for about 30km of washboard.
