Area de Alpe d'huez parking camping car Be warned the drive up is quite long and fairly steep. We were in 2nd gear for 8 miles. There is a tunnel you have to go through to get there, max height is 4.5m Nice little Aire next to the airport. We stayed in winter when there is no water available due to it freezing, however in the summer this wouldn't be an issue. There is a toilet disposal and a self cleaning public toilet as well as a selection of bins at the top of the site. There is a short (maybe 7 minutes) walk till you're on the slopes, and then straight onto one of 5 lifts. There are also nursery slopes closer which I don't think you need a pass for. The airport is within 50 meters of the Aire, there are helicopters coming and going however I haven't noticed any in the evening or early morning. There are buses that come round throughout the day that can take you to most parts of the resort, these run on a loop. Tourist information is about a 25 minute walk away, or if you have a lift pass you can get a gondola reducing the walk to about 15 minutes. You could also get a bus. It's about a 15 minute walk to the shopping centre which has a lot of ski rental shops, a kiosk to get your lift pass, a few bars and a small intermarche (fairly steep walk back). Other than that there is a river running just below the Aire which you can hear but isn't too loud!
