Te Akatarawa Campground

The Waimate District Council looks after this campsite and for a small fee you can experience the goodness. Please register and pay on arrival - information is on the registration booths. This campsite is across the Lake Aviemore - to get there you can cross at Aviemore Dam or at Benmore Dam. Camp underneath the willows right next to the lake. Heaps of places to call your own. There are toilet facilities here as well as recycling and water. You can water ski in the little lake, pick a bunch of delicious fruit, or go for walks over Benmore Dam and to the lookout. This place is extremely popular with the locals, who camp here for the season.
