Great beachside free camping at Blue Bay (follow the small road right to the beach), grassy areas to park, large vehicles ok, all camping behaviour ok, no services except for toilets onsite. There was a carpet of green fluffy seaweed in the shallow waters that you can wade past to swim (as the locals do), otherwise walk down the beach a few hundred metres. The beach at the far end of the bay is very good and clean, but the camping spot here at Blue Bay is great. You cannot free camp or park overnight at the Mahia Beach end of the bay.
