The wild Cha Gorge is a canyon of superlatives. It is not one of the "ordinary" gorges that are numerous on Crete. The inaccessible Cha Gorge is one of the largest tectonic faults in Europe and runs in an unusual east-west direction. It was formed after an earthquake. The name is derived from the Greek word for "echo/sound". The narrow exit of the Cha Gorge is only a few meters wide. There is an almost level parking space on a gravel track past the somewhat noisy recycling factory to the chapel. With a light, strong vehicle you can drive another 150 meters. Immediately at the entrance to the gorge there is a flat, level platform with space for 2-3 vehicles.
