You can park for free along the street both day and night. The U3 takes you to Marienplatz in 22 minutes. The Olympia shopping center is very close, and there is a bakery and an Edeka supermarket there. We parked there for one night and used the location the following day to go on a little sightseeing tour with our children in downtown Munich. Even though it is not a quiet parking space, it was great because of the connection to the U3. And it's free too - what more could you want?
