This is a FREE public parking area in a beautiful park. There is a sweet little castle ruin besides it and plenty of bats. The park flows into two other parks so plenty of space to explore with a dog or stretch your legs after a long drive. Opposite the castle there are Basketball courts, a work out area and you can book tennis courts in the summer! These are near the "Windmill" ruin. All signposted. This park is just a 10min drive from the City Center! But quieter than the lonely carparks in the town and surrounded by trees instead of motorways. This parking overflow area is almost always empty, day and night, Occasionally a local van lifer parks up. The main car park, next to this one, gets fairly busy on warm days and packed on holidays. There is a school next to the park, so you may hear school drop offs, and plenty of dog walkers using the park during the day, but at night it's fairly quiet. There may be the occasional group of revelers walking home from one of the awesome local micro pubs, but they are unlikely to approach a van. The area is mostly made up of hippies, students and families so a nice area to be in. In the park there's often a coffee cart, on sunny days, just next to the car park!! There's also an Italian restaurant, next to the car park, with free public toilets open throughout the day. On Heaton Rd, the main Rd, just outside of the park, You can find Coffee Shops/Cafes galore, Micro Pubs/Cocktail bars, a Vegan takeaway, a VERY good Indian restaurant/takeaway Khans (which is open till late) a hippy shop that does refills and Suma ( The Honey Tree) a Lifestyle shop with a lovely owner and opposite him a Sainsbury's local. A gluten free bakery (The Lilly Tree) A posh Tea shop and there's a LAUNDRETTE!! Further up there's also a Community Grocery Store in the Elim Church where you can get discounted food and toiletries and a good and cheap cafe. (no dogs here) If you were to walk through the park and up the hill you get to Heaton Park Rd where you will find another Refill hippy shop (The 109 Store) another Vegan/Gf friendly cafe(Heaton Perk) plenty more cafes, sandwich shops, micro pubs, a house clearance shop(handy for replacing pans/radiators etc) and... Heaton local store... that welcomes dogs and gives them treats! The whole of Heaton is Dog friendly. All the cafes are allergy aware and most, if not all, of them have Gluten free and Vegan options. Top tip: Head over to Shields Rd for an array of charity shops!
