(24440) Sherando - Coal Road

Coal Road, a 16km gravel track from Sherando through the Big Levels park, has over 40 designated, free park-up places. Some have permanent campers, a few have been blocked off, some litter-strewn. We stayed in the small disused car park of Cellar Mountain trail head, just after the road turns to tarmac again. You can access it completely on tarmac from Vesuvius. No restrictions. Very quiet night. Three or four vehicles passed in the evening. Got a wave from one local.
